An antique mall, not an antique shop

The difference matters. A shop reflects one person’s taste. A mall of this size reflects a hundred and seventy five, and that’s why it’s worth walking the whole thing.

The place

Eighteen thousand square feet by the Empire Mall

We’re in a long single-story building on Shirley Avenue with our own parking lot. Inside it’s open, bright and laid out in aisles, with booths and locked cases running the length of the floor.

Everything is on one level. Nothing is roped off. You can pick things up, turn them over and put them back, and nobody will hover.

Allow longer than you think. Most people plan on half an hour and are still there two hours later, which is the single most common thing we hear at the counter.

The vendors

A hundred and seventy five different ideas of what’s worth keeping

Every booth is rented by somebody who buys, prices and arranges it themselves. Walk twenty feet and the whole character of the shelves changes.

CollectorsPeople who’ve spent decades on one subject and know more about it than anybody you’ll meet.
DealersWorking traders who buy estates and auctions, with stock moving through the booth weekly.
MakersLocal craft, repurposed furniture and new work sitting alongside the old.

Because vendors restock on their own schedule, there’s fresh material going out most days of the week. That’s the real reason people come back often rather than once a year.

If you’ve a collection you’re thinking of selling, or you’d like a booth of your own, there’s a wait list you can join.

Straight answers

How we do things

  • Prices on the tag are cash prices. Cards are fine, with 3% added.
  • Offers go to the vendor, not to us. We’ll ask on your behalf.
  • We’ll hold a piece while you fetch a vehicle or a second opinion.
  • Tell us what you’re hunting and we’ll put the word round the booths.
